Background and rationale
Ethical considerations are one of the most important parts of any health research. Due to its importance,
the World Health Organisation (WHO) developed guidelines called “International Guidelines for
Biomedical Research Involving Human Subjects” in 1982.
Using these guidelines, different countries
have developed regulations in order to safeguard people who are involved in health researches.
However, there is very limited knowledge on ethical issues involved in medical health researches among
health researchers.
To address this, the Mbeya College of Health and Allied Sciences (MCHAS) in
collaboration with Mbeya Medical Research Centre (MMRC) of the National Institute for Medical
Research (NIMR) is planning to conduct a short training of Medical health research ethics course from
6th-7th February 2020 in Mbeya.
Objectives
The main objective of this course is to train health professionals in essential basic principles of medical
health research ethics. The course beneficiaries are expected to be medical health researchers, health
program staff, project researchers, lecturers, regional and district health management teams, medical
graduate and postgraduate students.
