University Background
This phrase captures the essence of SEKOMU’s uniqueness and beauty, which began on October 28, 2007 as a constituent university college, SEKUCo, under Tumaini University. On September 30, 2012, the Tanzania Commission for Universities gave SEKUCo permission to transition into a full-fledged university, SEKOMU. SEKOMU’s main campus is in the village of Magamba, Lushoto district. Tanga City’s and Bumbuli’s teaching centers launched in January 2012 and October 2014, respectively. SEKOMU is a private institution owned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania’s North Eastern Diocese (NED-ELCT). It was the first university in the Tanga region. This name was inspired by Rt. Rev. Dr. Sebastian Ignatius Kolowa (1933-1992).
