NACTE admission details.
The National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) was founded in 1997 by the National Council for Technical Education Act (Act No. 9 of 1997). The Act establishes a legal framework for the Council to coordinate technical education and training and to establish an effective national qualifications system that will ensure that technical institutions’ products are of high quality and respond to changing needs as well as global technological innovations.
Objectives
The following three key objectives are derived from the mission statement:
(a) To create and maintain a regulatory framework for technical and vocational education and training that leads to quality-assured credentials;
(b) To guide and monitor technical and vocational schools’ adherence to the regulatory framework in order to improve and sustain the quality of the education they provide and to ensure that their programs match labor market demands; and
c) Advising the government on technical development strategy and vocational education and training, so that it may make well-informed policy decisions.
Admissions
Information on Admission Section
Admission and Articulation Section deals with Admission Verification of selected students through online and offline model, facilitate student’s mobility, prepare and review admission guidebooks, admission guideline and procedures and the section provide technical support to institutions on admission verification and enrollments of verified selected students as well as continuing students.
Admission Guide Book
The admission Guidebook was prepared before the commencement of the admission into Certificate and Diploma programmes. The Guidebooks contains various information about the institutions offering the certificate and diploma courses. The Council, set the Minimum entry requirement for certificate and diploma programme to be four passes in Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) excluding passes in religious subjects.
However, there are some programme requirements that are specific to certain programmes. Generally, the admission criteria that were adopted in the admission guidebook those approved by NACTE as per Curriculum Information Reports for relevant programmes. The programmes offered ranges from Basic Technician Certificate (NTA Level 4), Technician Certificate (NTA Level 5) to Diploma (NTA Level 6).
Thus, of the information contained in the admission guidebooks for a given academic year includes the list of institutions with their corresponding programmes offered, minimum entry requirements for each programme, type of ownership of the institution, tuition fee for the respective programme and its duration. The Guidebook is organized per subject boards as follows.
A. Entry Requirements into Science and Allied Technologies (SAT) Programmes
For an applicant to be eligible for admission into Science and Allied Technologies programmes, he/she must satisfy the minimum entry requirements of four passes in non religious subjects in Certificate of secondary education examination (CSEE). However,there are some programme requirements that are specific to certain programmes.
B. Entry Requirements for Admission into Health and Allied Sciences (HAS) Programmes
For an applicant to be eligible for admission into Health and Allied Sciences (HAS), he/she must satisfy the minimum entry requirements of four passes in non religious subjects in Certificate of secondary education examination (CSEE). However, there are some programme requirements that are specific to certain programmes.
C. Entry Requirements for Admission into Business, Tourism and Planning (BPT) Programmes
For an applicant to be eligible for admission into Business, Tourism and Planning (BPT), he/she must satisfy the minimum entry requirements of four passes in non-religious subjects in Certificate of secondary education examination (CSEE). However, there are some programme requirements that are specific to certain programmes.
